Tooth extraction & oral surgery
Gentle extractions and minor tooth surgery.
Some teeth can't be saved, and some — like impacted wisdom teeth — are better out. Extractions and minor oral surgery are done at the clinic, with your comfort kept in mind throughout.
About tooth extraction & oral surgery
Saving a natural tooth is always the first choice, but sometimes removal is the healthier option — when a tooth is broken beyond repair, badly decayed, loose from gum disease, or when a wisdom tooth is impacted and keeps causing pain, swelling or infection.
Before an extraction the tooth is examined and, where needed, X-rayed to see the shape and position of the roots. The area is numbed with local anaesthesia, so you feel pressure but not pain. Simple extractions are quick; surgical extractions, such as for impacted wisdom teeth, take a little longer and may need a few stitches.
You'll be given clear aftercare instructions — biting on gauze, avoiding spitting, smoking and hot drinks for the first day, and eating soft food while the area heals. If a missing tooth will leave a gap, options to replace it, such as an implant or bridge, can be discussed at the same time.
