Treating active breakouts and the marks they leave.
Acne treatment is planned around your skin — it may combine topical or oral medication, chemical peels and other procedures. Acne scars and marks are treated separately once breakouts are under control.
Acne develops when pores become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, and bacteria and inflammation follow. It can show up as blackheads, whiteheads, red pimples or deeper, painful cysts, and it's influenced by hormones, genetics, stress, certain products and sometimes diet.
Treatment is planned around your skin type and the kind of acne you have. It may include topical creams, oral medication when needed, chemical peels to unclog pores, and guidance on a skincare routine that won't make things worse. Consistency matters — most treatments take several weeks to show their effect.
Once breakouts are under control, the marks they leave can be addressed. Dark spots fade with time and treatment, while textured scars respond to procedures such as microneedling, peels and resurfacing. Avoiding picking and squeezing is one of the best ways to prevent new scars.
